="The most challenging aspect of being a leader in my school and community is the ability to reach my peers, to grab hold of their attention, in such a way, that one is able to encourage positive change. As a leader one needs to capture the attention by “baiting the hook” so to speak, to get them to listen attentively. It’s a challenge to educate one’s peers to help them comprehend the consequences for their actions. The realizations of past actions may not be immediate or short lived, but rather the impact may be some time in the future. Thus, the influence to reassess one’s behavior of smoking, drugs, drinking, etc., may take place, but the reality may be long term.
By being a leader as well as a role model, I find it challenging to let my peers know that it is fine to decline or reject any other potential vice/pressures which may have come their way. It is also challenging to uphold and to continue the work that has been left to you.
The final evaluation of being a leader is certainly not the fame and the glory, but the knowledge that what I have done has made a difference to my peers which us evidenced by their attitudinal change, about the direction of their lives. I believe that if I can influence a positive life path, then I have also gained by achieving self-satisfaction.
