My 4th of July... among other things..
Jul. 5th, 2003 03:05 pmI know its been awhile since I've updated, but I've been so busy! I'll go back to yesterday, and how Paolo and I spent the 4th. We were in Boston, for the 4th of July Pops Concert/Huge Fireworks Display. It was absolutely amazing, despite the fact that we were in the same place for more than 12 hours yesterday. We left my house by 7am, and went to his grandparents house in Brighton, and took the bus into Kenmore Station, and from there, hopped on the Green Line Subway to Arlington, and then we walked to the Esplanade. It was an interesting journey, its been awhile since I've been to Boston, and on a subway. Anyway, we got in line to get in at 8:30 am, and the line was already about 1,500 people deep. They opened the gates at 9am, and from there, we had to wait until about 10:15 am to get to the security table, where they search all your bags and coolers and stuff. Also, they gave you a green bracelet to wear all day so you could get in and out of the Hatch Shell area. So, we set up our blanket in a shady spot by the bay that was inbetween the esplanade and the charles river. And then, we waited. It didn't get that hot at all for us, since we were under trees all day, I didn't even need sunscreen and I didn't burn. We stayed at our spot all day, only getting up once in awhile to get food. We had brought crackers, cookies and tons of water. It was a bit boring at times, but we each had books and his CD player, and we talked most of the day, so it wasn't that bad. Around 1pm, Keith Lockhart came out and talked to the audience a bit, so that was nice. Then around 3pm, Paolo and I both ended up falling asleep, since we'd been up since 6am that morning. We crashed until about 4, and we just hung out until the show started at 8pm. The show was amazing, the Pops are amazing, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was so good! And the fireworks, were the best display I'd ever seen. Although the day was so long, it was so worth it. Paolo and I got along the entire day, and we both want to do it again next year! If anything, yesterday brought us even more closer. Then the fireworks ended, and we left. Leaving was a chore in its own! There were over 600,000 people in the area, about 9,500 just in the esplanade, but there were people on the other side of the bay, and all around the outside of the esplanade. We were able to walk, actually it was more like run to get the subway in Arlington, then catch the bus back to Brighton. Lets just say that it amazes me how many people can fit into a subway, and how absolutely insane an event like this is. But, we both want to do it next year! We got to my house around 1:30 am, and I had to say goodbye to Paolo because he was leaving for his family vacation and his college orientation is on Monday. He'll be back a week from today, and I'm sure I'll miss him a lot. I ended up sleeping till about 2:30pm today! I was so exhausted, and I still am, even now. But, the really really long day was indeed worth it.
Now I'll backtrack a bit.. Paolo and I reached our one month point on July 1. That night was spent at his house, celebrating his brother Nicco's 14th birthday. I really do love spending time with him, and being with him has never given me more pleasure than anything before. This is the happiest I've been in so long, and I have a feeling that we're going to be together for a long time. We've got a lot of plans this summer, including going to the Cape again, where his grandparents have a house, going to Boston again for the Duck Tours, going to Gloucester, and at some point, going to Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Thats just a few of the things we want to do this summer. I can't wait to see whats in store for us next, and I'll miss him a lot this week, but it'll give me a chance to spend time with my girlfriends and have some time to myself.
